Presidential Office thanks US Secretary of State Pompeo for statement of support
Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) expressed thanks to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for stating at a congressional hearing on March 27 (US EST) that the United States is now using every tool in its tool kit to prevent China from isolating Taiwan through diplomatic channels. Secretary Pompeo also reaffirmed the importance of the Taiwan-US relationship and gave assurances that the United States will honor its commitments to Taiwan.
Spokesperson Chang thanked Secretary Pompeo for expressing support for Taiwan-US relations, and acknowledging Taiwan's role in maintaining regional peace and security. Spokesperson Chang also said that based on the freedom and democracy that both countries share and our common interests in regional security, prosperity, and well-being, Taiwan will continue to exchange views on bilateral relations with the US government and Congress to foster an even closer partnership. As a member of the region, he said, Taiwan will also continue to cooperate closely with the United States and like-minded countries in the Indo-Pacific to contribute to regional peace, stability, and well-being.
