Presidential Office statement regarding China's fighter jets crossing Taiwan Strait's median line
Presidential Office statement regarding China's fighter jets crossing Taiwan Strait's median line
2019-03-31

Presidential Office Spokesperson Alex Huang (黃重諺) issued a statement today addressing the crossing of the median line of the Taiwan Strait by two Chinese fighter jets on the morning of March 31, saying that China's actions both disregard its international responsibility, and constitute an intentional provocation that threatens regional security and stability. Crossing the median line also flagrantly undermines the cross-strait status quo, and the Republic of China (Taiwan) government strongly condemns such behavior. He also reminded China that as a member of the regional community, it should stop acting in ways that endanger regional peace and well-being, and not become an international troublemaker.

Spokesperson Huang went on to say that around noon, President Tsai Ing-wen was briefed by National Security Council officials about China's fighter jet incursion, and directed the nation's armed forces to take all necessary combat preparedness measures to ensure national security. Based on a shared responsibility for regional security, the government has already notified the relevant countries regarding this threat to regional security through various channels.
