Coordination Council for North American Affairs to be renamed Taiwan Council for US Affairs
Commenting on the renaming of the Coordination Council for North American Affairs (CCNAA) as the Taiwan Council for US Affairs (TCUSA), Presidential Office Spokesperson Alex Huang (黃重諺) said it is deeply significant that, upon the 40th anniversary of the enactment of the Taiwan Relations Act by the US Congress, Taiwan's representative office in the United States has been able to officially change its name after concerted efforts to complete the bilateral coordination process. This stands as testimony to a growing closeness in Taiwan-US relations.
Spokesperson Huang stated that the United States is Taiwan's most important ally in the international arena, and in recent years has cooperated closely with Taiwan on matters pertaining to regional peace and Indo-Pacific security. Bilateral relations continue to grow stronger, he said, and our two countries have established a close partnership on important global and regional issues. The US government has given Taiwan strong support in recent years, both in national defense and security, as well as with respect to Taiwan's international participation. In particular, support for Taiwan within Congress and the policy community has reached a new high, and for this we are very grateful, said Spokesperson Huang. He added that Taiwan, as an important US ally and a member of the international community, will continue developing a firmer cooperative relationship with the United States, and will work together with the United States to achieve regional security, stability, and well-being.
