President Tsai meets US Heritage Foundation founder Dr. Edwin Feulner

President Tsai Ing-wen met with a delegation led by US Heritage Foundation founder Dr. Edwin Feulner on the afternoon of October 8. The president mentioned that this year, the Heritage Foundation named Taiwan one of the best places to do business in Asia, and 10th in the world in terms of economic freedom. She looked forward to signing a bilateral trade agreement with the United States in the future to bolster our commercial ties.

A translation of President Tsai's remarks follows:

I am delighted to see Dr. Feulner at the Office of the President once again after our meeting in New York for our second meeting at the Presidential Office this year. We have exchanged views many times since I took office, and I want to welcome him to Taiwan once again for this year's National Day celebrations.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act. This piece of legislation has strengthened ties between Taiwan and the United States across national defense, security, commerce, technology, and culture.

Over the past three years, we have worked hard to relax regulations and achieve fiscal soundness, open markets, and energy transition. And this year, the Heritage Foundation named Taiwan one of the best places to do business in Asia, and 10th in the world in terms of economic freedom. As we work to transform our economic structure, we are also strengthening our democracy, and solidifying our rule of law.

Many of the United States' top companies, including Cisco, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services, have set up R&D and innovation centers in Taiwan. Over the past two years, we have announced a number of new energy contracts, and this is one of the fastest-developing areas in Taiwan-US cooperation.

We look forward to signing a bilateral trade agreement with the United States in the future to bolster our commercial ties.

I want to welcome Dr. Feulner and all of our guests to Taiwan once again. I look forward to your continued strong support for Taiwan, so that we can work together for even better Taiwan-US relations. Finally, I want to wish you all a smooth and successful visit.
