Taoyuan, Northern Taiwan, April 16 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian outlined Tuesday his prospect of a future "green silicon Taiwan," in which, he said, people would be able to enjoy a hi-tech lifestyle.
Chen made the remarks during a visit to the Telecommunication Research Center of Chunghwa Telecom Co. located in Yangmei, Taoyuan County.
He said the government's policy for the next stage of economic development is to develop Taiwan into an international logistics, operation and management center and to make the prospect of "green silicon Taiwan" a reality.
Taiwan is now at a critical moment of the economic transformation that will lead the island into a broadband era, the president went on, stressing that telecommunications and Internet services will play an important role in this transformation.
Accompanied by Presidential Office Deputy Secretary General Chen Che-nan, Minister of Transportation and Communications Lin Ling-san, Taoyuan County Magistrate Chu Li-lun and legislators elected from the Taoyuan constituency, Chen visited several economic establishments and construction projects in the county.
