Vice President Lu Meets with Thomas Appleton, Head of Canadian Aircraft Maker Bombardier
Taipei, April 11 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu met Thursday with Thomas Appleton, head of Canadian aircraft maker Bombardier.

She welcomed Appleton's trip to Taiwan, which is part of Bombardier's efforts to strengthen its cooperation with Taiwan in the aerospace industry and urged the Canadian business leader to use his influence in Canada to promote exchanges between the two countries.

Noting that Taiwan is a disaster-prone island with mountainous terrain, Lu said the county relies heavily on aircraft for rescue and relief operations, as well as for transporting supplies to islands off its coastline. This, she went on, is one of the reasons behind her campaign when she served as Taoyuan county magistrate to set up an aerospace industrial zone near the Chiang Kai-shek International Airport.

Lu said she believes Taiwan has great potential to be developed into a regional center for aircraft maintenance and spare parts supply.
