Presidential Office thanks US government once again for announcing an arms sale to Taiwan
2020-11-04

After the US government notified Congress on November 3 (US EST) regarding the sale of MQ-9B Remotely Piloted Aircraft to Taiwan, Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) noted that this is the third time the US government has provided Taiwan with key defensive weapons in the past two weeks. The Taiwan government once again expressed thanks to the US government for continuing, based on the Taiwan Relations Act, to fulfill its security commitments under the Six Assurances through concrete action.

Spokesperson Chang also said that this equipment meets Taiwan's military strategy and defense needs and will effectively upgrade our around-the-clock military surveillance capabilities, accelerate the upgrading of our asymmetric combat capabilities, and strengthen overall defense. Based on our existing interaction and cooperation, Taiwan will also continue to further solidify Taiwan-US ties, deepen cooperation with the United States and other like-minded countries, and be a force for good contributing to regional peace and stability.
