Taipei, March 25 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian said Monday that he hopes the Australian National University will strengthen its exchanges and cooperation with local universities in the areas of biology, information technology and medical technology.
Meeting with Ian Chubb, the visiting ANU Chancellor who said that his university is very willing to expand its cooperative projects with Taiwan, Chen said that Taiwan should learn how to upgrade its research standards from the ANU because "a nation's hope lies in its people's talent, which in turn relies on education." Chen added that he hopes the university, which is also well known in the area of strategic research, will strengthen its cooperation with Taiwan's National Defense University and local think tanks.
The president praised Chubb for his active promotion of international exchanges among universities. The ANU has sister-school ties with National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University and National Defense University.
