President Tsai addresses 2021 JCI Asia-Pacific Conference
On the evening of August 19, President Tsai Ing-wen addressed the 2021 Junior Chamber International (JCI) Asia-Pacific Conference via video. In her remarks, President Tsai expressed hope that, through its focus on personal development and social responsibility, JCI will inspire innovative ideas for a more sustainable future.
A transcript of the president's remarks follows:
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the 2021 JCI Asia-Pacific Conference. More than 4,000 JCI members from 21 Asia-Pacific countries are taking part in this year's event, which is being hosted virtually by JCI Culture City from Taichung, Taiwan. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all your hard work that made this event possible.
The innovation and vitality of young entrepreneurs is a key driver of social and economic development. Your contributions have never been more important, as countries across the world enter a new era shaped by the pandemic and the challenges it has created. I encourage you all to come up with ways to bring about economic recovery, while providing support to disadvantaged communities.
This commitment to social welfare, sustainable living, and positive change are at the heart of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, which are in line with the goals our government is working diligently to achieve. By committing to sustainable, balanced development, companies can thrive while protecting the environment and helping society.
To encourage more companies to take this path, Taiwan's public and private sector have jointly established the Alliance for Sustainable Development Goals, held the Global Corporate Sustainability Awards, and organized the largest Corporate Sustainability Forum in Asia.
JCI is an important partner in this mission. I am confident that this year's conference, along with the Chamber's focus on personal development and social responsibility, will inspire innovative ideas for a more sustainable future.
