2002-03-03

Pingtung, southern Taiwan, March 3 (CNA) Republic of China Vice President Annette Lu said in Pingtung Sunday that the government has decided to help local enterprises establish plants in the country's diplomatic allies in Latin America.

She made the remarks while delivering a speech at a Rotary Club meeting at National Pingtung Normal College.

Lu said that she is worried about the fact that more and more local manufacturers are going to set up plants in mainland China.

In the past few years, she noted that some US$200 billion had flown into the mainland from Taiwan together with a large number of skilled personnel.

The vice president said that Taiwan has many diplomatic allies in Central and South America, and added that the government will help local enterprises to move their production bases there.

She said that details of the plan will be announced in the near future.
