Republic of Chad Ambassador Hissein Brahim Taha Presents His Credentials to President Chen
Taipei, Jan. 22 (CNA) Republic of Chad Ambassador to the Republic of China Hissein Brahim Taha presented his credentials to President Chen Shui-bian Tuesday at the Presidential Office.
Chen extended a warm welcome to Taha and noted that the ROC and Chad have maintained strong and solid relations and friendship since resuming diplomatic links in August 1997. He also recalled visiting Chad in August 2000 with the aim of solidifying bilateral ties.
Chen said that during his stay in N'Djamena, he met with President Idriss Deby to exchange views on a wide range of issues and added that the talks helped cement ROC-Chad diplomatic ties.
Deby came to power in January 1991 and earned the respect of the people of Chad thanks to his excellent administrative achievements. He was re-elected in the African country's first direct presidential election last year.
Chen further said that during his visit to Chad, he also witnessed the fruits of ROC assistance in the promotion of several development projects in the fields of agriculture, public hygiene, education and infrastructure, such as the "Taiwan Bridge" that connects the northern and southern parts of the country.
Chen said that as a prominent and successful career diplomat, Taha will make great contributions to the promotion of Taipei-N'Djamena diplomatic links and bilateral cooperative relations.
For his part, Taha expressed heartfelt thanks to the ROC government for all assistance it has extended to Chad and promised to do everything possible to step up bilateral relations during his presidency.
He also disclosed that the "Taiwan Bridge" is expected to be formally inaugurated in April and that Deby is also planning to visit the ROC in March.
