Vice President Lu Addresses a Ceremony Aimed at Promoting Traditional Chinese Culture and Arts
2001-12-30

Taipei, Dec. 30 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu said here Sunday that she believes all people of Chinese ancestry are willing to accept the idea of "one Chinese race."

Addressing a ceremony aimed at promoting traditional Chinese culture and arts, Lu said people of Chinese ancestry, "no matter whether they are in Taiwan or abroad," would be willing to accept the idea of "one Chinese race." She expressed the hope that people on Taiwan and the Chinese mainland, who have common Chinese racial and cultural connections, will work together for a bright and beautiful future.

Lu emphasized that the idea of "one Chinese race," or "one Chung Hwa" in Chinese, is a good basis for building a normal cross-strait relationship.

She hoped that Beijing would no longer insist on its "One China principle," which is not acceptable to the people of Taiwan.
