Taipei, Dec. 10 (CNA) Republic of China President Chen Shui-bian reiterated Monday that the government is determined to protect teenage girls from commercial sexual abuse.
He made the remarks while signing a "Human Rights Declaration for Teenage Girls" worked out by the Garden of Hope Foundation, a charitable group devoted to the welfare of women and children.
Chen said that since he assumed the presidency last year, the government has placed more emphasis on the promotion of human rights.
He added that the government will take steps to protect teenage girls so that they can grow up with dignity and gender equity.
