Taipei, Aug. 17 (CNA) Republic of China Vice President Annette Lu received visitors from the Netherlands and Jordan Friday to exchange views on various issues of mutual concern.
Hans van Baalen, a Dutch parliamentarian, and Musa Al Maani, a Jordanian minister, were in Taipei attending the just-concluded "Voice from Taiwan; World Peace" activities.
During her talks with Van Baalen, Lu said that Taiwan attaches much importance to maintaining close relations with European countries.
She also expressed hope that ROC President Chen Shui-bian will be allowed to visit Denmark to receive the "International Liberty Award" and that he will take advantage of the opportunity to visit other European countries.
Lu said that she hopes to see further exchanges between Taiwan and the Netherlands on the existing good foundation, especially in the high-technology fields of biology and electronics.
Van Baalen affirmed the "Voice from Taiwan; World Peace" activities organized by Lu, saying that "it is significant to bring together peace-loving people from around the world."
In her meeting with the Jordanian minister, Lu said that despite the absence of formal diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Jordan, the two countries have maintained cordial substantive relations. She said that if she has the opportunity, she wants to visit the Middle Eastern country.
Her visitor said that the "Voice from Taiwan; World Peace" activities had "a deep significance" for the entire world, especially the Middle Eastern region, where he said more such activities are required.
Lu said that "shouting for peace is better than crying over war," and added that she hopes the seeds of peace will have been "sown around the world" through the Aug. 15-16 activities and that the bells of peace will toll in the entire Middle Eastern area.
