Taipei, Aug. 9 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian presented Republic of China national flags Thursday to two teams of athletes who will take part in the upcoming Sixth World Games and the 21st Universiade.
Chen said that as president, he felt deeply honored to be able to present national flags to national athletic teams.
He urged the athletes to do their utmost for the country and expressed his wish that they will also serve as diplomatic and friendship envoys for Taiwan to boost bilateral exchanges with other countries.
Chen added that Taiwan teams' presence in every international sporting event is a step in the history of a battle for national dignity and image.
