Vice President Lu Addresses an Anti-drug Rally
2001-06-17

Taipei, June 17 (CNA): Republic of China Vice President Annette Lu called on parents Sunday to spend more time with their children and educate them on the dangers of illegal drugs.

Lu made the remark while addressing an anti-drug rally sponsored by the Hsinchuang City branch of the Lion Clubs International. "We have to rid society of drugs like marijuana, amphetamines, ecstasy and heroin -- which damage physical health -- but we must also target those influences in society that can act as a poison to the minds of our young people, like spreading vicious rumors, for example," Lu said.

Lu reminded parents to spend more time with their children during the summer vacation to prevent them from becoming involved with illegal drugs and being tempted to view pornography.

Lu put the final tile on a 120-meter "anti-drug wall" that contains 1 million mosaic tiles.
