Asuncion, May 31 (CNA) Republic of China First Lady Wu Shu-jen donated US$20,000 in cash to the Paraguayan First Lady Welfare Foundation Thursday on behalf of the ROC government and people.
Wu made the donation during a visit to Paraguayan President Luis Angel Gonzalez Macchi's official residence, where she received a warm welcome from her Paraguayan counterpart.
Wu said she feels honored to visit the Paraguayan president's official residence, which is also used as an office.
Wu further said she admires the Paraguayan first lady's dedication to promoting charitable and social welfare services for underprivileged groups and low-income families.
Wu, who herself has been confined to a wheelchair since being paralyzed in a car accident 16 years ago, said she is hopeful that the ROC donation can help finance the Paraguayan foundation's charitable and social welfare programs. "The donation conveys our people's concern for their Paraguayan counterparts and also symbolizes close ties between the two countries," Wu said.
