Taipei, April 16 (CNA) Republic of China Vice President Annette Lu called Monday for greater women's rights and proposed the formation of a non-governmental "Alliance for Asian Women Politicians."
Lu made the proposal at an Asian forum sponsored by a local foundation at the Taipei International Convention Center during a speech on "Women and Power." Scores of representatives from nine countries took part in the event.
Lu stressed that the pursuit of greater rights in a wide range of areas for women is aimed at reducing the possibility of war and "mistakes," rather than challenging men. Lu told the audience that the goal must be achieved step by step, saying "Rome was not built in a day" and that the international community should pay greater heed to the issue.
Lu also revealed that she will launch a campaign on Aug. 14, the final day of World War Two, to promote world peace in a bid to remind the people not to make the same mistakes of the past.
