Taipei, March 29 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian presided over a spring memorial service for those who died in battles for the Republic of China held at Martyrs Shrine in suburban Taipei Thursday.
The president led Vice President Annette Lu, the presidents of the Executive, Legislative, Justice, Examination and Control Yuans, as well as other officials and elected representatives in attending the service.
Amid the sound of bells and drums, the president burned incense, laid a wreathe, and then bowed three times to the altars of the war dead during the solemn ceremony.
After the ceremony, the president also gave his respects to the representatives of the families of those who died in battles for the Republic of China.
