President Lee Welcomes Senegalese President

President and Madame Lee Teng-hui this afternoon preside over a ceremony at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei, welcoming President and Madame Abdou Diouf of the Republic of Senegal and their delegation. President Diouf, a former chairman of the Organization of African Unity, is here on a four-day state visit.

 

During the ceremony which includes a 21-gun salute, President Lee thanked President Diouf for making his first trip to the ROC and praised him as an outstanding leader. He also hopes that, through this visit, the guests will have a firsthand knowledge of the current economic success and political democracy in the ROC.

 

President Diouf congratulates President Lee for his March election victory and thanks the people of the ROC for their warm welcome. He also expresses his hope that cooperative relations between Senegal and the ROC will be further enhanced through his visit.

 

Other members of the Senegalese delegation include Mr. Abdoulaye Wade, Minister of State, Mr. Moustapha Niasse, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Papa Ousmane Skaho, Minister of Economics, Finance and Planning, and Mr. Abdoulaye Bathily, Minister of Environment and Protection of Nature.
