President Lee Teng-hui this morning tells visiting Irish MP Albert Reynolds, who is former prime minister, that he is committed to further cultural, education and administrative reforms and economic development during his four-year tenure, in order to ensure a better quality of life for the 21.3 million people in the Taiwan area.
The President also tells his guest that he hopes the ROC and Ireland can strengthen bilateral ties in economc, cultural and other fields and promote better understanding between the two peoples.
Mr. Reynolds extends his congratulations to President Lee on his victory in the March 23 presidential election. He also expresses his admiration for what the ROC has achieved in political democratization and economic prospeirty over the past decades.
Mr. Reynolds is accompanied by ROC Vice Foreign Minister Hoang Sieou-je to meet with President Lee at the Office of the President. Mr. Ding Mou-shih, Secretary-General of the ROC's National Security Council, is also present at the meeting.
