President Lee Teng-hui this afternoon says that the Republic of China looks forward to even closer relations with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The President makes the remarks while meeting with H.E. Ali Abu Ragheb, Minister of Industry and Trade of Jordan.
Minister Ragheb, who is on one-week visit to the ROC, says that he hopes this visit would help strengthen bilateral ties between both countries. He also delivers a letter written by Jordanian Crown Prince Al-Hassan Bin Tatal to President Lee.
The President asks Minister Ragheb to kindly convey his appreciation to the Crown Prince for the warm reception he received during his visit to Jordan in April 1995. President Lee made the visit at the invitation of the Crown Prince.
The President also tells his guest that he is deeply impressed by what he saw in Jordan and that he very much concerns about the national development of Jordan, adding that he hopes the ROC and Jordan can further promote bilateral cooperation and exchanges to benefit both peoples.
Minister Ragheb is accompanied by Dr. Wang Chih-kang, ROC Minister of Economic Affairs, to the Office of the President for the meeting. Dr. Ding Mou-shih, Secretary-General of the ROC National Security Council, and Mr. Stephen C.F. Chen, Deputy Secretary-General to the President, are also present.
