President Lee Teng-hui this morning meets with Mr. Sadanori Yamanaka, a veteran Japanese parliamentarian and president of the Japanese Diet's Council for Japan-ROC Relations.
During the meeting, President Lee expresses appreciation for Mr. Yamanaka's longterm efforts at promoting ROC-Japan friendship, adding that he hopes the increased exchange of visits between both countries will help strengthen bilateral ties.
Mr. Yamanaka tells President Lee that he will do his best to help enhance exchanges and cooperation between both sides. And he presents to President Lee a piece of calligraphy by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, founding father of the ROC, in an expression of his admiration to the President.
The Japanese guest is accompanied by Chairman Lin Chin-ching of the Association of East Asia Relations to the Office of the President for the meeting. Mr. Stephen S.F. Chen, deputy secretary-general to the President, and Mr. Chen Chien-jen, ROC vice foreign minister, are also present.
