The Presidential Office welcomed news that on July 8 (US Eastern Standard Time), the US Congress was notified that the US government has approved a new arms sale package for Taiwan. Against the backdrop of joint commemorations marking the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) this year, Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) expressed sincere thanks to the US government for continuing to honor its commitments under the TRA and Six Assurances through concrete action, and helping Taiwan strengthen its self-defense capabilities.

Spokesperson Chang stated that by providing Taiwan with defensive weapons and supporting Taiwan in building a strong military to deter possible military threats, the US government has given Taiwan greater ability and confidence to safeguard peace in the Taiwan Strait and regional stability. He went on to say that as a responsible member of the Indo-Pacific community, Taiwan will accelerate investment in domestic defense, and continue to strengthen security partnerships with the United States and other like-minded countries, so that together, we can safeguard regional security and stability and protect Taiwan's free and democratic values.
