Appointed chairman of the Research, Development and Evaluation Commission of the Executive Yuan, and concurrently assigned to form a Mainland Affairs Task Force, subsequently becoming the body's executive secretary. Formulates the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, and establishes Mainland Affairs Council under the Executive Yuan as well as Straits Exchange Foundation, institutionalizing cross-strait exchanges. |
