President Tsai receives credentials from new Dominican Republic Ambassador to the ROC Jose Miguel Soto Jimenez

On the morning of July 3, President Tsai Ing-wen received the credentials of Jose Miguel Angel Soto Jimenez, the new Dominican Republic Ambassador to the Republic of China, and welcomed him to his new post in Taiwan. She expressed hope that friendship between the two countries would continue to grow deeper, and that in the future we could enjoy even broader cooperation and exchanges in areas relating to politics, military, trade, and culture.

President Tsai noted that Ambassador Soto Jimenez previously held the esteemed position of minister of defense for the Dominican Republic, is very steadfast in his friendship for Taiwan, and has visited Taiwan twice in the past. She noted that President Danilo Medina's appointment of Mr. Soto Jimenez as Ambassador to the ROC demonstrates the depth of ties between the Dominican Republic and Taiwan.

Speaking of Taiwan-Dominican Republic relations, President Tsai pointed out that the two nations had maintained diplomatic relations for 76 years, and that in recent years we have been like close friends or brothers, cooperating closely in the areas of security, vocational training, agriculture, and medicine. She expressed her belief that with Ambassador Soto Jimenez's appointment to Taiwan, the two countries in the future would enjoy even broader cooperation and exchanges in the areas of politics, military, trade, and culture and that the bilateral relationship would continue to grow deeper.

The president also requested that Ambassador Soto Jimenez convey her sincere greetings to President Medina and Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas Maldonado. She expressed hope that they could find a suitable time to visit Taiwan, to further enhance mutual understanding, and to strengthen mutual assistance and cooperation between the two nations.

In closing, President Tsai once again welcomed Ambassador Soto Jimenez to his new post in Taiwan. In addition to reiterating the great importance she places on Taiwan-Dominican Republic relations, the president also indicated that the Taiwan government would in the future work together with all sectors of the Dominican Republic to continue to deepen the mutual friendship between the two nations.
