President Tsai receives congratulations from foreign visitors attending 2017 National Day Celebration

On the morning of October 10 at the Presidential Office Building, President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Chen Chien-jen received congratulations from foreign diplomats stationed in Taiwan and special visitors from throughout the world who came to take part in the ROC's 2017 Double Tenth National Day Celebration.

Among the roughly 130 foreign guests in attendance at the event were: Tuvalu Prime Minister Enele Sosene Sopoaga and Mrs. Sopoaga, Second Vice President of Honduras Ava Rossana Guevara Pinto and her husband, President of Paraguay's Supreme Court of Justice Luis Maria Benitez Riera and Mrs. Benitez, St. Lucia Senate President Andy Daniel, St. Lucia House of Assembly Speaker Leonne Theodore-John, Swaziland Minister of Home Affairs Tsandzile Dlamini and her husband. The distinguished guests proceeded to the Presidential Office Building at 9:30 a.m. to extend their congratulations. President Tsai and Vice President Chen warmly shook hands with the visitors and thanked everyone for attending. President Tsai was also accompanied by Secretary-General to the President Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) and Minister of Foreign Affairs David T. Lee (李大維).

In addition to Tuvalu Prime Minister Sopoaga and the leaders of delegations from the ROC's other diplomatic allies, many other foreign visitors were on hand to extend their congratulations, including: Japan's former Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Tamazawa Tokuichiro, Canada's Member of the House of Commons Steven Blaney, Congressman of the Republic of Peru Miguel Roman Valdivia, US State of Wyoming Governor Matthew Hansen Mead, Speaker of Malaysian Penang State Legislative Assembly Law Choo Kiang, and Member of the Scottish Parliament James Dornan; Nicaragua Ambassador to the ROC William M. Tapia and other members of the foreign diplomatic corps in Taiwan; American Institute in Taiwan Taipei Office Director Kin Moy and Mrs. Moy, French Office in Taipei Director Benoit Guidee, Director General of the German Institute Taipei Martin Eberts and Mrs. Eberts, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association Taipei Office Chief Representative Mikio Numata, Representative of the Korean Mission in Taipei Chang-Soo Yang and Mrs. Yang, and other representatives of foreign organizations and international bodies stationed in Taiwan.
