President Tsai inspects ROC technical mission in Marshall Islands, attends opening of climate-controlled greenhouse and "green" pig farm

At 3:00 on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 31 local time (11:00 a.m. on October 31, Taipei time), President Tsai Ing-wen and her delegation inspected the ROC technical mission in the Marshall Islands and attended the opening of a climate-controlled greenhouse and a "green" pig farm.

After President Tsai and her delegation arrived at the venue, Hsu Hui-ling (許慧玲), head of the ROC technical mission, briefed them on the mission's efforts to introduce "zero-waste agriculture, the circular economy, and local participation" operational concepts and procedures, and their practical impact on farm operations. After the briefing, President Tsai and President Hilda C. Heine marked the beginning of operations at a climate-controlled greenhouse and a "green" pig farm.

While touring the pig farm and inspecting its three-stage wastewater treatment system, President Tsai and President Heine fed some piglets, and got a first-hand feel for how a "green" pig farm is designed and how waste is treated and reused.

After leaving the pig farm, President Tsai toured a climate-controlled greenhouse where she learned about growing vegetables, and joined President Heine to press the start button for the climate control system. President Tsai praised the technical mission for its conservation of water and electricity and its use of other environmentally friendly farming practices to make the most efficient possible use of limited resources.

Among those present in this activity were the following officials from the Marshall Islands government: President Heine's husband, Thomas Kijiner Jr; Foreign Affairs Minister John M. Silk; Minister of Natural Resources and Commerce Alfred Alfred, Jr.; Majuro Mayor Ladie N. Jack; and Ambassador to the ROC Frederick Muller. Among those representing Taiwan were: Secretary-General to the President Joseph Wu (吳釗燮); National Security Council Deputy Secretary-General Tsai Ming-yen (蔡明彥); Minister of Foreign Affairs David T. Lee (李大維); Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung (陳時中); Minister of the Council of Indigenous Peoples Icyang Parod (夷將‧拔路兒); and ROC Ambassador to the Marshall Islands Tang Diann-wen (唐殿文).
