Presidential Office expresses gratitude for new US arms sale package for Taiwan

The Republic of China (Taiwan) government expressed gratitude for the United States government's announcement early today (March 15 US EST) of a new arms sale package for Taiwan. Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) said that this sale fulfills the US government’s commitments under the Taiwan Relations Act and Six Assurances, and helps Taiwan strengthen its self-defense capabilities and ensure cross-strait peace and regional security.

Spokesperson Chang also said that by providing Taiwan with defensive weapons, the US government helps Taiwan strengthen our national defense capabilities, prevents the unilateral changing of the cross-strait status quo, and gives Taiwan even greater ability and confidence in protecting the peaceful and stable status quo. At the same time, Taiwan will continue to increase investments in national defense, including strengthening national defense industries and technical research and development, to demonstrate our resolve to defend ourselves and our commitment to cross-strait and regional security.
