President Tsai bids farewell to Chitra Jeremiah, outgoing Nauru Ambassador to the ROC
While meeting with outgoing Nauru Ambassador to the ROC Chitra Jeremiah on the morning of June 25, President Tsai Ing-wen thanked her for her support and contributions to Taiwan. The president also expressed hope for more opportunities for cooperation and exchanges between Taiwan and Nauru in the future, so that we can jointly take part in international affairs and continue to strengthen our bilateral partnership.
In remarks, President Tsai recalled that Ambassador Jeremiah assumed her post in Taiwan just two months after the president took office. Over the past few years, President Tsai said, the ambassador has worked with us to bolster Taiwan-Nauru relations, and the president thanked her for all her hard work. She remarked that Ambassador Jeremiah would return to Nauru the next day to prepare for her new assignment as Nauru's Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva. President Tsai extended her best wishes to the ambassador in her new post.
The president pointed out that Ambassador Jeremiah's contributions to Taiwan-Nauru relations over the past two years speak for themselves. The ambassador has actively promoted reciprocal visits in both the public and private sectors, President Tsai stated, and has worked to pursue further opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.
The president further pointed out that Ambassador Jeremiah played a critical role as liaison when Taiwan hosted President Baron Waqa, cabinet heads, parliamentarians, and political leaders, as well as during the visit by President Tsai's delegation to Nauru earlier this year. She helped ensure those activities were flawlessly arranged, and deepened bilateral exchanges, said the president.
Ambassador Jeremiah has also worked tirelessly to care for Nauruan students studying in Taiwan, President Tsai noted, and has been their greatest source of support. Thanks to the ambassador, they can feel warmth from Nauru right here in Taiwan, she said.
The president pointed out that Ambassador Jeremiah has also supported healthcare cooperation by working closely with Taichung Veterans General Hospital to arrange for Nauruan patients to receive high-quality care there. Her efforts have helped enhance our countries' mutually beneficial friendship, said the president.
President Tsai said she trusts that Ambassador Jeremiah's time in Taiwan has shown her that Taiwan is willing and able to contribute more to the world. The president expressed hope that after Ambassador Jeremiah takes up her new post, she can work with our representative offices in Switzerland to support Taiwan's admission to the World Health Organization, so that Taiwan and Nauru can jointly take part in international affairs and continue to strengthen our bilateral partnership.
In closing, the president thanked Ambassador Jeremiah once again for her support and contributions to Taiwan, and welcomed her to come back often. We hope for more opportunities for cooperation and exchanges in the future, the president said, and wish her every success in her new post. President Tsai also asked the ambassador to convey greetings to President Waqa.
