President Tsai meets delegates to APEC Business Advisory Council

President Tsai Ing-wen met with Taiwan's delegates to the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Acer Chairman Jason Chen (陳俊聖), Taiwan Mobile President Jamie Lin (林之晨), and Quanta Computer CTO Ted Chang (張嘉淵), as well as Chairman Chen's ABAC deputy delegate to ABAC, PELL Biomedical Technology Limited founder Prof. Steve Chen-Lung Lin (林成龍), on the morning of November 4 at her official residence.

President Tsai exchanged opinions with the ABAC delegates on important issues in the digital economy, including how to integrate technological talent and resources and how to creatively develop business services in areas such as e-sports, smart medicine, smart cities, and smart transportation. They also discussed how to strike a balance between commercial interests, information security, and personal privacy, as well as how to accelerate the updating of relevant regulations.

President Tsai stated that Taiwan has plenty of digital economy talent and technology, and expressed hope that the ABAC representatives would make good use of their extensive experience in promoting digital transformation to share Taiwan's efforts and achievements with other countries at ABAC venues. Taiwan's position in the international community is more difficult than most countries, so our government, industry, and society must work together to find a path forward, she said.

The APEC Business Advisory Council was established in 1995 and is comprised of 3 industry delegates from each of the 21 member economies. Its purpose is to spur public and private sector dialogue and cooperation between Asia-Pacific countries during their policy formation process. Each delegate can also select a deputy delegate. Taiwan's ABAC delegation also includes President Lin's deputy delegate KKday CEO Ming Chen (陳明明).
