Presidential Office congratulates Democratic Party candidate Biden on his election as US president

The US Congress certified the results of the recent presidential election on January 7 (US EST), confirming Democratic Party candidates Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Kamala Harris as president-elect and vice president-elect of the United States. Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) said that President Tsai Ing-wen offered her sincere congratulations on behalf of Taiwan's government and people to President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris on their election victory. President Tsai looks forward to smooth policy implementation, national development, greater prosperity, and the continued deepening of Taiwan-US relations under the incoming Biden administration.

Spokesperson Chang stated that the United States is a key ally of Taiwan, and a steadfast partner that shares our values of freedom and democracy. In recent years, joint efforts by Taiwan and the US have promoted the development of our political, economic, and security partnership, and President Tsai extended her sincere thanks to the US administration led by President Donald Trump for its strong support in advancing Taiwan-US relations and its wide-ranging assistance to Taiwan.

Spokesperson Chang also said that based on this existing strong foundation, the Taiwan government will continue to enhance cooperation with the new US administration, working together to promote the wellbeing of people in both countries and maintain regional peace, stability, prosperity, and development.
