On April 19, President Tsai Ing-wen spoke with the Kingdom of Eswatini's King Mswati III by telephone to wish him well on the occasion of his 53rd birthday. The president told His Majesty that she was pleased to see that under his leadership, Eswatini has shown significant progress in all areas of national governance, and that Taiwan will work hand-in-hand with Eswatini to promote national development, continue to deepen our bilateral friendship, and improve the wellbeing of people in both countries.
President Tsai maintained that Taiwan and Eswatini will continue to enhance our bilateral partnership and jointly plan cooperation in areas including trade, energy, public health, information and communication technology, agriculture, and infrastructure. The president thanked Eswatini, on behalf of the Taiwanese government and people, for its longstanding support for Taiwan's international participation, which it has repeatedly shown by speaking up for Taiwan at international fora. President Tsai also noted that Eswatini's friendship is deeply felt by the Taiwanese people and expressed her hope that our ties will continue to grow stronger.
The president concluded by welcoming King Mswati III and the Queen Mother to come to Taiwan once the COVID-19 pandemic has receded, in order to further enhance our bilateral relations.
President Tsai was accompanied by Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) for the duration of the friendly 30-minute call.
