President Tsai receives credentials from new Haiti Ambassador Roudy Stanley Penn

On the morning of July 6, President Tsai Ing-wen received the credentials of new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Haiti to the Republic of China (Taiwan) Roudy Stanley Penn. The president welcomed Ambassador Penn to his post in Taiwan, and expressed hope that Taiwan and Haiti will continue to strengthen our partnership.

A translation of President Tsai's remarks follows:

Today, I am delighted to accept Ambassador Penn's credentials, and to sincerely welcome you on behalf of the people and government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

This past April, Taiwan and Haiti marked 65 years of diplomatic relations. Over the past few years, we have continued to collaborate closely in fields such as medicine and public health, agriculture, and education. We have also launched a number of cooperative infrastructure projects, which have yielded many results.

For over a year now, Taiwan and Haiti have also joined together to face the challenges of the pandemic. Last year, Haiti took part in the first Global Cooperation and Training Framework workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean, which was hosted by Taiwan in collaboration with other countries.

I want to take this opportunity to once again thank Haiti President Jovenel Moïse for speaking up in support of Taiwan's international participation at last year's UN General Assembly. I would also like to ask Ambassador Penn to please convey our thanks and best regards to President Moïse.

Ambassador Penn may be young, but he is already very accomplished, with extensive experience and outstanding achievements in both the public and private sectors. His posting to Taiwan shows how highly Haiti values our friendship.

With Ambassador Penn's assistance, we look forward to further strengthening our partnership. Given what I know about Ambassador Penn's rich experience and his deep knowledge of public policy, I am sure that he will offer valuable guidance across the range of our bilateral cooperation.

This appointment marks Ambassador Penn's first time in Taiwan, so once again, let me welcome you, and wish you every success in your new post.
