Presidential Office thanks Poland for vaccine donation
In response to Poland's donation of 400,000 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses, which arrived in Taiwan on the morning of September 5, Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) said that the Presidential Office is sincerely grateful to the Polish government for its warm support. He also thanked Taiwan's team of diplomats and our many friends who worked to facilitate the prompt delivery of these vaccines, at a time when the international community continues to face a serious pandemic and an unstable supply of vaccines.
Spokesperson Chang noted that last year, when the pandemic was particularly severe in Europe, Taiwan donated one million face masks and other disease prevention supplies to Poland, and in May this year, when Taiwan raised its national pandemic alert level, Poland donated protective clothing to the Taipei City Government. Spokesperson Chang further noted that Poland is the fourth European Union member country—after Lithuania, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic—to donate vaccines to Taiwan, once again demonstrating the virtuous cycle of mutual support among democratic partners in the fight against the pandemic.
Spokesperson Chang added that the people of Taiwan are touched by this support from Central Europe. Taiwan and Poland share close and friendly ties, and are like-minded partners that share the values of democracy, freedom, and human rights. Taiwan will continue to build on the foundation of our partnership with Poland in order to further deepen bilateral cooperation, advance prosperity and wellbeing in both countries, and jointly serve as a force for good to promote global health and our shared values.
