President Tsai welcomes Vice President J. Uduch Sengebau Senior of Palau to Taiwan

On the evening of August 27, Vice President and Minister of Justice J. Uduch Sengebau Senior of the Republic of Palau, accompanied by her husband, arrived in Taiwan at the invitation of our government to lead a delegation on a five-day visit until August 31. Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) said that President Tsai Ing-wen extended a sincere welcome to the delegation on behalf of the people and government of Taiwan. President Tsai and Vice President Lai Ching-te will meet with the delegation at the Presidential Office on the morning of August 29.

Spokesperson Chang stated that Vice President Senior last visited Taiwan eight years ago in 2014 when she was a member of the Palau senate, and that this will be her first visit as vice president. The spokesperson said that during her visit, our two sides will exchange views about bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual concern.

Spokesperson Chang mentioned that in the 23 years since Taiwan and Palau established official diplomatic ties, we have cooperated in a wide range of fields including infrastructure, agricultural and fisheries technology, medicine, and public health, and in recent years have stepped up joint efforts in important areas such as judicial affairs, coast guard affairs, and disaster preparedness. The spokesperson added that Palau has also long spoken up on the global stage in support of Taiwan's international participation, highlighting our close bilateral ties and friendship.

Spokesperson Chang went on to say that as fellow maritime countries, we hope the visit of Vice President Senior's delegation will further enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as education, culture, information and communications technology, disaster preparedness and rescue operations, judicial affairs, and public health, as we work together to further the well-being of both our peoples, strengthen our friendly bilateral ties, and harness the power of maritime democracies to contribute to regional and global peace and stability.
