President Lai witnesses signing of joint communiqués on diplomatic relations by Palau, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines

On the afternoon of May 21, President Lai Ching-te witnessed the signing of joint communiqués on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Palau and Saint Christopher and Nevis, as well as between Palau and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at the Presidential Office, in anticipation of working together to support one another, and with the global democratic community, continuing to jointly safeguard democracy, freedom, and peace.

President Lai first witnessed the signing of the joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations by Palau Ambassador to Taiwan David Adams Orrukem and St. Kitts and Nevis Ambassador to Taiwan Donya Lynex Francis, followed by that of President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr. of Palau and Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

President Whipps of Palau, Prime Minister Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanley of St. Kitts and Nevis led delegations to Taiwan to attend the inauguration of the 16th-term president and vice president. These countries advocate democracy, freedom, and peace, and are staunch allies of Taiwan. In hopes of establishing and enhancing diplomatic relations with one another, they then decided to hold the signing ceremonies in Taiwan.

As a country where our diplomatic allies have inaugurated formal ties with one another, we believe that we, standing as one on a solid foundation, will work together to support one another, and with the global democratic community, to continue safeguarding our shared core values.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were the delegations of Palau, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Secretary-General to the President Pan Men-an (潘孟安), National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu (吳釗燮), and Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍).
