President Tsai attends presentation ceremony for commemorative stamps marking 50 years of Taiwan-Eswatini diplomatic relations

King Mswati III of Eswatini led a visiting delegation to Taiwan today (June 8). Following talks between the king and President Tsai Ing-wen, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of a Taiwan-Eswatini economic cooperation agreement. President Tsai then accompanied Eswatini's king and queen to the Presidential Office Building Post Office to attend a presentation ceremony for a set of commemorative stamps marking the 50th anniversary of Taiwan-Eswatini diplomatic relations.

The two heads of state first listened to a briefing by Wei Chien-Hung, Chairperson of Chunghwa Post Co., Ltd., about the set of commemorative stamps celebrating the 50th anniversary of Taiwan-Eswatini diplomatic relations, and the Taiwan From the Air postage stamp series. As Chairperson Wei explained, designs for the 50th anniversary commemorative stamps combine elements from the Travel in Taiwan series and photos of representative scenes from Eswatini; the Taiwan From the Air series features images of Taiwan captured from the air by famed Taiwanese director Chi Po-lin (齊柏林). President Tsai then personally presented the two sets of stamps to King Mswati III as a symbol of the firm and enduring friendship between Taiwan and Eswatini.

Earlier, the two heads of state watched a welcome performance by the NaLuWan Dance Troupe at the Presidential Office Entrance Hall. The performers sang a folksong used in sacrificial ceremonies by Taiwan's indigenous Puyuma people, and performed a dance while wielding traditional wooden shields to give the king, queen, and their delegation a warm welcome from the people of Taiwan.
