President Tsai meets participants in 9th advanced Spanish international training course for diplomats
President Tsai Ing-wen met with participants in the 9th advanced Spanish international training course for diplomats on the morning of September 16. She stated that Taiwan is a responsible member of the international community, and we are willing to more actively participate in international affairs. We are also happy to share our developmental experiences in all areas with countries around the world, she said, and she expressed hope that participants would support Taiwan's participation in the United Nations' specialized agencies, as well as regional organizations.
In remarks, the president stated that participants in the course came from all corners of the globe, including Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. Their trips to Taiwan took anywhere from 10 to 30 hours, which could not have been easy, she added. She welcomed everyone on behalf of Taiwan, and expressed hope that participants would have the chance to experience Taiwan's warmth and friendliness while they are here.
The president pointed out that the sixteen participants in this year's international training course are all important friends of Taiwan from Romance language-speaking countries. All of them staunchly support Taiwan and have made great contributions to strengthening bilateral ties, she said, and she offered her sincere thanks for their efforts.
The president mentioned that for many years, Taiwan has solidified ties with our diplomatic allies through a variety of bilateral cooperative projects. At the same time, she said, we hope to facilitate more interactions and cooperative opportunities with countries that do not share formal diplomatic relations with us. During her state visits to Taiwan's Caribbean allies this year, she witnessed the many achievements of our cooperation in medicine, agriculture, and education, she stated.
President Tsai emphasized that Taiwan has always been a responsible member of the international community, and we are more than willing to participate more actively in international affairs. We are also happy to share our developmental experiences in all areas with countries around the world, she said, and she expressed hope that participants would support Taiwan's participation in the United Nations' specialized agencies, as well as regional organizations.
The president further stated that in order to facilitate deeper trade ties with countries around the world, Taiwan hopes to participate in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Pacific Alliance (PA). She expressed hope that course participants would all lend Taiwan their full support in these endeavors.
In closing, the president wished for a successful training course for all participants, and expressed confidence that this course would give them a better understanding of and appreciation for Taiwan. She expressed hope that after returning to their home countries, participants would share Taiwan's efforts, warmth, and beauty, and become "ideal spokespersons for Taiwan."
President of the Haitian Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Evalière Beauplan was also present at the meeting.
