While meeting with Tuvalu Foreign Minister Simon Robert Kofe and Mrs. Kofe on the morning of November 20, President Tsai Ing-wen emphasized that the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Tuvalu have always had an unshakeable cooperative partnership, are working together for mutual sustainable development, and fighting to expand our international participation. She also looks forward to continuing to cooperate with Tuvalu, fostering closer bilateral relations, and getting the global community to put more emphasis on sustainable development in the Pacific region.

A translation of the president's remarks follows:

Talofa! (Greetings!) I would like to welcome Minister Kofe and everyone in the delegation to Taiwan. I also want to congratulate Tuvalu for successfully electing a new parliament and forming a new government this past September, reflecting your country's democratic values.

Minister Kofe is an outstanding young talent. He has a professional background in law and traditional Tuvaluan values in his heart. I am sure that he will make a very favorable impression on the international stage.

For over four decades, the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Tuvalu have always had an unshakeable cooperative partnership. Together, we are working for mutual sustainable development and fighting to expand our international participation.

We are closely cooperating on projects that address issues of common concern for Pacific island nations, including climate change, agricultural and fishing industry development, health care, education, and energy.

I would like to thank Tuvalu's new government for recognizing and affirming our cooperation. In an interview with international media right after taking office, Minister Kofe made a point to express strong support for the friendly diplomatic ties between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Tuvalu.

I also look forward to continuing to cooperate with Tuvalu, providing mutual assistance for mutual benefits, fostering closer bilateral relations, and getting the global community to put more emphasis on sustainable development in the Pacific region.

In closing, I would like to once again welcome Minister and Madame Kofe. I hope you will have a smooth and successful visit, and that our diplomatic friendship will grow and endure. Thank you.
