Presidential Office thanks US government once again for announcing an arms sale package for Taiwan

The US government notified Congress regarding a military arms sale of Harpoon Coastal Defense Systems to Taiwan on October 26. Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) stated that the Taiwan government thanked the US government for once again providing important defensive weapons in the wake of last week's announcement of a three-part arms sale package.

Spokesperson Chang also said this sale once again constitutes concrete action by the US government to fulfill its security commitments under the Six Assurances, based on the Taiwan Relations Act, and also demonstrates that the US government considers assisting Taiwan to strengthen our self-defense capabilities a matter of great importance.

Spokesperson Chang emphasized that this arms sale will further enhance our military strategy and meet our defense needs, modernize our defensive combat capabilities, and accelerate the upgrading of asymmetric combat capabilities. Based on a strong national defense, Taiwan will also continue to deepen cooperation with the US and other like-minded countries in a concerted effort to maintain peace, stability, prosperity, and development in the Indo-Pacific region.
