President Tsai condemns Kabul airport terrorist attacks

On August 27 (Taipei time), Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) issued a response to major terrorist attacks carried out around the Kabul airport on the evening of August 26 (local time) that killed and wounded United States servicemembers and Afghan nationals awaiting evacuation. Spokesperson Chang said that, on behalf of the people and government of Taiwan, President Tsai Ing-wen condemned these terrorist acts, extended deepest condolences to the families of the Afghan and American victims, and expressed hope that those injured in the attacks will make a quick recovery.

Spokesperson Chang stated that President Tsai had directed Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) to call Sandra Oudkirk, Director of the Taipei Office of the American Institute in Taiwan, to express Taiwan's concern, extend condolences to the fallen US military personnel and their families, and affirm that Taiwan stands resolutely with the US in this trying time.

Spokesperson Chang said that Taiwan, along with the entire world, is deeply saddened by the losses this terrorist incident has caused, condemns the attacks, and hopes the situation will stabilize so that any escalation of conflict can be avoided. Spokesperson Chang added that Taiwan will continue to deepen its partnerships with the US and other like-minded countries, and act as a force for good contributing to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
