APEC envoy Morris Chang delivers remarks before departing for 2022 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Thailand

On the afternoon of November 17, ahead of his departure for Thailand to attend the 2022 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) on November 18 and 19 in Bangkok, APEC Leader's Representative Dr. Morris Chang delivered remarks on his trip. Dr. Chang said that he hopes to accomplish the tasks given to him by President Tsai Ing-wen, stated that he will use the opportunities presented by the trip to exchange views with other leaders at the meeting, and expressed hope for a productive AELM.

In his remarks, Dr. Chang first thanked all those who had come to the airport to see him off, and noted that the upcoming AELM will be the first to convene in person in four years. He said that he and his wife, Mrs. Sophie Chang (張淑芬), are both very excited about the trip, and added that it marks the sixth time for him to accept a presidential appointment to attend APEC, the procedures of which he is now well familiar with.

Noting that President Tsai gave him several key points to convey to APEC leaders when she named him as this year's Leader's Representative to APEC, Dr. Chang said that he will follow the president's instructions and relay those points to the best of his ability. He added that he will also have opportunities to have discussions with other leaders informally or in the meeting venue itself, and stated that he will take full advantage of these opportunities to exchange views with them. He also expressed hope for a productive AELM, the first to be held in person in four years.
